Family First

Drake’s mom has been ill for years. This worries Drake. They’re super close. They’ve been through a lot together. He’s the type of son who’ll do anything for his mom. When Sandi had surgery, Drake canceled his 2010 European tour. He stayed with her while she recovered. He has said in interviews that her illness scares him. He hates seeing her in pain.

Family will always come first for Drake. When Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter lost his younger sister, Leslie, he said the show must go on. He missed her funeral. When Drake’s mom needed surgery, he decided to reschedule his summer 2010 British and European tour dates. He announced this just one day before his performance at a big festival in Norway.

“Despite my best hopes, it is apparent that my mother will need surgery earlier than anticipated,” Drake told the press. “In light of this news, I have made the difficult decision to cancel [the] tour in order to support her during her recovery, just as she supported me through the years. I cannot thank my European fans enough and look forward to performing abroad soon. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy during this time.”
